That puts the Chris Evans vehicle on track to be the summer’s biggest superhero movie.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, meanwhile, fell to second after its record-setting debut last week.
As Gossip Cop reported, the boy wizard series became the highest-earning in film history, passing the Star Wars saga. This weekend, Potter added another $48 million to its total.
The Justin Timberlake-Mila Kunis comedy Friends With Benefits opened in a distant third place with $18.5 million in ticket sales.
Transformers 3 and Horrible Bosses came in fourth and fifth with $12 million and $11.5 million, respectively.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Zookeeper ($8.7 million), Cars 2 ($6.5 million), Winnie The Pooh ($5.5 million), Bad Teacher ($2.5 million), and Midnight In Paris ($2 million).
